Imbalance of hormones are associated with a lot of disorders in body especially Diabetes, Thyroid disorders, Obesity and many others. Now over 101 million Indian people are suffering from Diabetes. Around 10% of Indians do suffer from Thyroid disorders. Recent studies indicate over 135 million individuals are affected by obesity, with 24% of women and 23% of men (aged 15-49) being overweight or obese.Lifestyle imbalance with intake of energy dense foods, lack of regular physical exercise, stress, sleep disorders along with environmental pollution and endocrine disruptions due to wide spread of use of plastic and other chemicals are known to precipitate early onset of all these hormone imbalances. Presence of associated hypertension, dyslipidemia worsen the hormone disorders with development of early onset complications including heart, kidney, liver, eyes, nerves etc.

Therefore proper diet control, regular exercise and lifestyle changes along with timely and periodic testing is the way forward to detect and manage these disorders Later on the students and the staff engaged Dr Sunil in an interactive question and answer session on various health related queries. More than 250 people including students were tested for blood sugar, blood pressure and thyroid function. An educational material on Diabetes and Thyroid disorders was later on provided to each of the 500 odd participants.

Praising his efforts for creating awareness of Endocrine disorders among people from various sections of the society, vice chancellor Prof Dr Geetanjali Dash requested Dr Sunil Kota to continue these efforts for other segments of the society as well.
