ASHTRATANTRA FORTNIGHTLY NEWSPAPER CELEBRATES WORLD WATER DAY AT TALCHER

 A seminar on the drinking water crisis in the Brahmani river basin and its causes and remedies was held

 TALCHER,(23/03/2026):Talcher is widely known as an industrial and mining rich region. The central and state governments earn crores of rupees every day from the sale of coal and thermal power from this region and this region is at the forefront of enriching the economy of the country.

But unfortunately, the eternal Brahmani river flows nearby this city, its water is used in large quantities by all the factories and coal companies established here, but the drinking water problem in the Talcher area has become alarming. The public here is deprived of access to pure drinking water.

 Keeping this sensitive issue in mind, the fortnightly newspaper “Rashtratantra” organized a seminar on the topic of drinking water crisis in the Brahmani river basin on the occasion of World Water Day.

In this important programme, educationist Upendra Kumar Parida was the chief guest and discussed the causes of drinking water crisis in Talcher area and how it can be overcome. Smt. Subhadarshini Mohapatra, English Lecturer of Nilakanteshwar Mahavidy was the special guest and discussed, even though the country has crossed eight decades of independence, there can be no more sorrow than the fact that people of Talcher, despite giving everything for the economic resources of the country, are deprived of drinking water.

Therefore, there is a need for a mass movement again. Satyanarayana Parida, science Lecturer of Kaniha College, senior journalist Debi Mishra, President of Talcher Bar Association Santosh Kumar Sahu, senior member of Angul District Red Cross Society Balaram Pati and Sanskrit Lecturer Sudhakar Khuntia of Bhadrak College gave key contributions and emphasized on water conservation and its proper utilisation along with plantation of trees .

To get rid of the drinking water crisis, it is very important to increase the groundwater level.

For this, every family should adopt rainwater harvesting system in their yard. The intellectuals present at the programme disapproved of the government’s indifference in providing clean drinking water to the people of Talcher through piped water and the neglect of the local administration towards the people of Talcher and emphasised the need for a water movement in the coming days. Media representatives, intellectuals, educationists, volunteers, lawyers, and students were present at the programme and participated in the discussion.

The programme was presided over by Rashtratantra’s Chief Editor Dhiramohan Ray, while Editor Debashis Parida introduced the guests and proposed the vote of thanks.
