Lift Turns into Attempted Murder and Robbery: Nimakhandi Police Crack Blind Case Within Hours, Accused Arrested

Brahmapur, July 15: In a swift and commendable operation, Nimakhandi Police cracked a blind attempt-to-murder and motorcycle theft case within hours of its reporting, arresting the accused and recovering the stolen motorcycle along with the weapon used in the crime.
The case was registered at Nimakhandi Police Station as Case No. 225/2026 on July 14, 2026, under Sections 126(2), 118(1), 118(2), 309(6), and 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on a complaint lodged by Smt. Sunita Nahak (25), wife of Ashok Nahak of Old Khajuria village under G. Nuagaon Police Station.
According to the complaint, on the evening of July 13 at around 7:00 PM, Ashok Nahak, a carpenter and cultivator, was returning home on his Hero Honda Passion Pro motorcycle (Registration No. OR-07-X-9302) when he was stopped near Phulta by an unknown man seeking a lift.
Trusting the stranger, Ashok allowed him to ride pillion. However, while travelling, the accused allegedly pulled out a knife and slit Ashok’s throat with the intention of killing him before fleeing with the motorcycle.
The seriously injured victim was immediately shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, where he is undergoing treatment.
Acting swiftly, a special team from Nimakhandi Police launched an intensive investigation. With crucial coordination and support from the Srikakulam District Police of Andhra Pradesh, investigators identified the accused as Dharma @ Papu Sahu (25), son of Hari Sahu, a resident of Lanjipalli, Ganesh Nagar, 3rd Lane, under B.N. Pur Police Station.
The accused was traced and apprehended at Palasa within hours of the FIR being registered. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to committing the crime and led police to the recovery of the knife concealed in the dicky of the stolen motorcycle.
Police seized both the Hero Honda Passion Pro motorcycle and the knife used in the offence in the presence of independent witnesses.
The accused was formally arrested on July 15, 2026, and produced before the competent court. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused was involved in any similar offences.
The prompt detection of the case and the recovery of the stolen property underscore the efficiency and coordinated efforts of Nimakhandi Police and the Andhra Pradesh Police in ensuring the speedy arrest of the accused.
