Mercury Crosses 42°C in Odisha; Titilagarh Hottest, IMD Warns of Dry Spell

Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to reel under intense heatwave conditions on Wednesday, with Titilagarh recording the highest maximum temperature in the state at 42.0°C, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s Bhubaneswar centre.
Several western and interior districts witnessed extreme temperatures above 40°C, highlighting the severity of the ongoing heat spell. Jharsuguda registered 41.6°C, while Sambalpur, Hirakud and Bolangir each recorded 41.0°C. Talcher and Bhawanipatna reported 40.8°C and Boudh touched 40.0°C.
Coastal regions experienced relatively lower but still above-normal temperatures. Chandbali recorded 37.7°C, while Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Balasore reported 36.0°C, 35.9°C and 36.3°C respectively.
Night temperatures remained high across the state, ranging between 21.5°C and 27.7°C, offering little respite from the prevailing conditions.
Humidity levels further added to discomfort. Boudh recorded a high of 96% relative humidity in the morning, with coastal and southern areas such as Gopalpur and Paralakhemundi also witnessing elevated moisture levels.
Rainfall activity remained negligible, with only Paralakhemundi receiving 2 mm rainfall and Nayagarh reporting trace precipitation.
