Seminar on  “Role of Students in Safeguarding the Constitution” by CSNR & NISWASS

Bhubaneswar , (Odishabarta)The Bhubaneswar-based leading voluntary organisation, “Centre for the Sustainable Use of Natural and Social Resources” (CSNR), and the National Institute of Social Work and Social Sciences (NISWASS), a prominent educational institute in Bhubaneswar, jointly organised a seminar titled “Role of Students in Safeguarding the Constitution”. This event was held on the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, at the Ambedkar Hall of NISWASS, Bhubaneswar.The chief speaker of the seminar, Prof. Dr. Bijay Bohidar (Retd), emphasised the crucial role of students in protecting the constitution and human rights in today’s societal context. He discussed the multifaceted aspects of the constitution and highlighted the biography of Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the founder of the Indian Constitution.Ms Supriya Das, a noted TV anchor and journalist, was the guest of honour. She observed that the media’s influence is gradually diminishing in the present time. She appreciated CSNR and NISWASS for organising such conference under these circumstances and stressed the importance of the media’s role in protecting the Constitution and human rights in India. She encouraged students to take the lead in protecting the constitution, human rights, and dignity by promoting decency.At the end of the program, the successful students in the essay competition were honoured with certificates and other prizes. It was revealed that CSNR and NISWASS had jointly organised an essay competition last February on the topic “Role of Women and Children Desk in Police Stations for Safeguarding the Rights of Women and Children”. Students from University Law College, Capital Law College, Institute of Media Studies, NISWASS, and Ravenshaw University participated in this competition.The program began with a welcome speech by Prof. Sasmi Naik, Director of NISWASS. She introduced the guests and highlighted the biography of Bhimrao Ambedkar. The Secretary of CSNR, Mr. Dhirendra Panda, joined the event and explained the purpose of the program and the various development work undertaken by CSNR. He also emphasised the important role of students and youth groups in societal change. Other guests included the Principal of NISWASS and other officials. The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Program Manager Advocate Shri Chandranath Dani. Adv Ranjit Sutar and Ms Palishree Das of CSNR presided over the program.
