Contraband from 53 Police and Excise Cases Destroyed at Sheragada Incinerator

Gajapati, September 10, 2026:A massive 13,346.179 kg (13.346 metric tonnes) of seized ganja linked to 53 cases in Gajapati district was destroyed at the authorised incinerator at Sheragada in Ganjam district on Thursday, following the orders of the Drug Disposal Committee, Gajapati, and in accordance with due legal procedure.

Of the total contraband destroyed, 11,541.429 kg had been seized in 23 police cases, while another 1,804.750 kg was seized in 30 Excise cases.

The disposal operation was conducted under official supervision to ensure that the seized narcotic substance was destroyed in a transparent manner and in compliance with the prescribed legal procedures.

The destruction was carried out in the presence of Jai Narayan Pankaj, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Southern Range, Berhampur, along with the SP, Gajapati; SP, STF, Odisha; Superintendent of Excise; Executive Magistrate; DSP (Headquarters), Gajapati; District Scientific Officers; and other senior police, Excise and committee officials.
