Badabazar Police Bust Two Illegal Sand Transportation Rackets; Five Arrested with Forged Y-Forms

Berhampur, August 22: Badabazar Police have busted two separate illegal sand transportation rackets and arrested five persons for allegedly using forged Y-Forms to evade government revenue.

Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted two sand-laden trucks near Haridakhandi Chhaka, close to the State Bank of India, during the early hours of August 21, 2026.

Three Arrested in First Case

In connection with Badabazar PS Case No. 635/2026, a police team led by SI Deepak Kumar Das intercepted truck OD-07-BD-5599 at around 1:20 AM.

The driver produced Y-Form Pass No. A2608100016/1/45, which was subsequently verified through the i4MS portal and found to be fake. The forgery was also confirmed by the Mining Officer, Ganjam Circle, through Letter No. 2527/Sairat dated August 21, 2026.

Police arrested Bachan Marthi (40), driver from Chandragiri under Mohana Police Station in Gajapati district; Jisaya Jani (28), helper from Madhuramba under Mohana Police Station; and Debendra Pradhan (55), owner of the truck from Kanisi Hat under Golanthara Police Station in Ganjam district.

Police seized the sand-loaded truck, the counterfeit Y-Form and a VIVO mobile phone.

Two Arrested in Second Case

In another case, Badabazar PS Case No. 634/2026, police intercepted another sand-laden Hywa truck at the same location around the same time.

During verification, the Y-Form produced for the vehicle was found to be completely forged, with its QR code found non-responsive.

Police arrested Kalu Behera (37) of Luniapada under Polasara Police Station and Surya Narayan Reddy (40) of Nigam Nagar, Ankuli, under Baidyanathpur Police Station.

The sand-loaded Hywa truck, fake Y-Form and an Oppo mobile phone were seized.

Both cases have been registered under Sections 303(2), 61(2)(a), 336(3) and 338 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Section 51 of the Odisha Mines & Minerals Concession Rules, 2016.

All five arrested accused persons have been forwarded to court custody.
