Ganjam Ranks No. 1 in Solar Installations
Ganjam emerges as Odisha’s solar leader
25,277 installations across eight districts
Southern Odisha strengthens clean energy transition
Rooftop solar adoption gaining strong momentum
Berhampur, August 2026: Ganjam has emerged as the leading district in Odisha in rooftop solar adoption, recording 16,418 installations, the highest in the State. The achievement places the southern district at the forefront of Odisha’s growing transition towards clean and renewable energy. The milestone reflects the growing acceptance of solar energy among households and the increasing shift towards sustainable power generation.
The State-wide data presents a strong picture of rooftop solar adoption, with Baleshwar ranking a close second in installations, followed by Khordha and Cuttack. The performance of these districts highlights the expanding footprint of rooftop solar across both urban and rural Odisha, with Ganjam leading the State in the number of installations.
Ganjam’s performance is particularly significant for Southern Odisha, where it has emerged as the clear leader among the eight districts served by TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL). The eight districts—Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput and Boudh—have together recorded 25,277 rooftop solar installations.
The growing adoption is being driven by the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which is enabling households to adopt rooftop solar with government support. TPSODL is complementing the initiative through consumer awareness, grassroots outreach and Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) Model, facilitating greater access to rooftop solar across its operational districts.
The growing presence of solar panels on rooftops is gradually changing the way households view and use electricity. Consumers are increasingly becoming participants in clean energy generation, harnessing sunlight to meet a part of their electricity requirements while contributing to a greener energy mix.
Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, TPSODL, said, “Ganjam emerging as the leading district in Odisha in rooftop solar adoption is a significant milestone in the State’s clean energy journey. This achievement reflects the growing confidence of consumers in solar energy and the collective efforts of the administration, communities and stakeholders. We deeply appreciate the proactive support and cooperation extended by the Ganjam district administration, along with the administrations across all our operational districts, in facilitating awareness and adoption of rooftop solar. TPSODL remains committed to working closely with all stakeholders to take this momentum forward and enable more households across Southern Odisha to embrace clean, sustainable and energy-secure solutions.”
TPSODL continues to undertake door-to-door awareness campaigns, Gram Panchayat engagements, consumer outreach programmes and stakeholder interactions to encourage rooftop solar adoption. The company remains committed to supporting consumers in accessing the benefits of government-backed solar initiatives and accelerating Southern Odisha’s contribution to the State’s renewable energy journey.
