Police arrest 1,771 Accused in 5-Day State-wide crackdown
Bhubaneswar,16/5/26:Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania has launched a massive, zero-tolerance crackdown and standard operating procedure (SOP) to cleanse Odisha of habitual and absconding criminals. The directive enforces strict surveillance on jail returnees, immediate execution of non-bailable warrants (NBWs), and aggressive preventative policing against the anti-social mafia.
On Sunday issued a stern warning to criminals, asserting that there is no place for offenders in the state and those planning to commit crimes should be prepared to face police encounters. Last five days score card is Over 1,771 accused persons were arrested across Odisha in a five-day state-wide police crackdown launched on May 12 on the directions of Director General of Police YB Khurania, targeting crimes ranging from narcotics and illegal arms to cattle smuggling and mining offences.
Supervised by Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, the drive spanned all police ranges in the state and resulted in the execution of non-bailable warrants, the arrest of 190 absconding criminals and the booking of five notorious individuals under the National Security Act.
Another 449 habitual offenders were booked under Section 129 of the BNSS, while proceedings were initiated against 643 persons under Section 126.
On the drugs front, 31 NDPS Act cases were registered, with 29 arrests and seizures of around 3,000 kg of ganja and 16.6 grams of brown sugar.
Separately, 716 excise cases were registered state-wide.
In a crackdown on drunken driving, action was taken against 966 drivers, with Rs 1.89 crore collected in fines.Illegal mining led to 136 cases, 60 arrests and seizure of 179 vehicles.
Police also registered nine arms cases, arresting 13 persons and seizing 20 unlicensed firearms.
Five cattle smuggling cases were registered and 33 cattle rescued
