Petrol Pump Cable Theft Busted: Three Arrested, Stolen Copper Recovered in Brahmapur

Brahmapur, September 13, 2026:Brahmapur Sadar Police have cracked a copper cable theft case reported from a petrol pump at Baghajhari Kalua Gate Square, arresting three persons, including two alleged thieves and a scrap dealer accused of receiving the stolen material.

The case came to light after copper cables were allegedly stolen from the rear portion of the JIO BP petrol pump on September 11.

According to police, the petrol pump owner, Tirupati Sahu, lodged a complaint at Brahmapur Sadar Police Station on September 12. Following the complaint, police registered Brahmapur Sadar PS Case No. 576/2026 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.

Police Trace Two Suspects

During the investigation, police detained Ranjan Das (26), resident of Ralingnagar, and Panchu Das (22), resident of Padarabali, who were allegedly involved in the theft.

Police said investigation revealed that the duo allegedly stole the copper cables and subsequently burnt away the plastic insulation to extract the copper. The extracted copper was allegedly sold for 7,000 to a local scrap dealer identified as Hina Sahu (50), of Ankushpur.

Acting on the investigation, police conducted a raid at a scrap shop near Kalua Chhaka and recovered the allegedly stolen copper material.

Scrap Dealer Also Arrested.

Police subsequently arrested Hina Sahu in connection with the alleged receipt and purchase of the stolen property.

The three accused—Ranjan Das, Panchu Das and Hina Sahu—were booked under Sections 303(2), 3(5) and 317(2) of the BNS.

All three were formally arrested on September 13, 2026, and forwarded to the competent court for further legal proceedings.

The swift recovery of the stolen copper and arrest of the alleged offenders mark a successful investigation by Brahmapur Sadar Police.
