Man Arrested for Assaulting Neighbour with Steel Rod in Lanjipalli

Brahmapur, September 13, 2026:A 34-year-old man was arrested by Baidyanathpur (B.N. Pur) Police for allegedly assaulting his neighbour with a steel measuring rod during a quarrel at Ganesh Nagar 1st Lane under Lanjipalli area of Brahmapur.

According to police, B.N. Pur Police Station registered Case No. 481/2026 on September 13 under Sections 115(2), 296, 109(1), 351(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on a complaint lodged by a 22-year-old resident of the locality.

As per the complaint, the incident took place at around 11 PM on September 12 following a dispute between the accused and the complainant’s family. The complainant alleged that his neighbour, identified as Somya Ranjan Sahu, son of Sudhir Kumar Sahu, attacked him with a steel measuring rod locally known as a Gaja, resulting in an injury to his head.

Police said the accused and the complainant are immediate neighbours and had strained relations over an earlier family dispute. On September 12, a quarrel allegedly broke out between the accused and the complainant’s mother following a family-related issue. When the complainant intervened, the situation reportedly escalated, following which the accused allegedly assaulted him with the steel rod.

The injured complainant was subsequently sent to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Brahmapur, for medical examination.

Following registration of the case, the IIC of B.N. Pur Police Station visited the spot, examined witnesses and recorded their statements. Police also seized the alleged weapon of offence, a steel measuring rod, from the spot/possession of the accused.

During the course of investigation, police said prima facie evidence emerged against Somya Ranjan Sahu, aged 34, of Ganesh Nagar 1st Lane, Lanjipalli, Brahmapur.

The accused was arrested on September 13 and forwarded to the competent court. Further investigation into the case is underway.
