Chenai:A passenger on board an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah to Chennai stunned fellow travellers early Sunday morning when he opened the emergency exit door and jumped out while the aircraft was still taxiing after landing at Chennai International Airport.
The incident occurred shortly after touchdown, as the plane moved slowly along a taxiway before coming to a halt. It triggered an immediate security response and briefly disrupted airport operations.
A senior airport official confirmed the incident, saying the aircraft was still on the move when the man jumped. “There was no loss of life or damage to the aircraft,” the official added, clarifying that the episode did not take place on the main runway.
Preliminary inputs suggest the passenger was unwell during the flight. “He complained of a vomiting sensation and is believed to have vomited twice on board,” an official said, indicating his condition may have contributed to the act.
The pilot promptly alerted ground security. CISF personnel responded swiftly, secured the individual and handed him over to the police for further investigation.
The main runway was shut between 3:23 AM and 4:23 AM as a precaution, with flights diverted to the secondary runway. Unverified reports suggest the passenger may be from Pudukkottai district in Tamil Nadu. Authorities have launched an inquiry into the aviation safety breach.
