Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) has implemented a statewide hike in milk prices, raising retail rates by ₹4 per litre effective Sunday.
The price revision follows the cooperative’s recent decision to enhance procurement rates for dairy farmers, aimed at offsetting the rising costs of cattle feed and maintenance.
Under the updated pricing structure, toned milk, the most widely consumed variant, will now retail at Rs.54 per litre, up from the previous Rs.50. Prices for premium milk have been adjusted to Rs.58 from Rs.54, while Gold Premium and Gold Premium Plus variants will now cost Rs.60 and Rs.64 per litre, respectively. Consumers purchasing half-litre packets will see a price increase from Rs.27 to Rs.29.
OMFED officials stated that the hike was necessary to support the livelihoods of nearly three lakh dairy farmers across Odisha. To this end, the procurement price paid to farmers was increased to Rs.39.05 per litre from Rs.38.05, effective May 1, 2026.
The federation cited the escalating expenses associated with fodder, veterinary medicines and general maintenance as the primary drivers behind the adjustment, noting that these factors had begun to impact overall milk production in the state.
