Berhampur,(15/06/26):The recent incident in the Tota Sahi area under the Gosaninuagaon Police Station limits involved a man being beaten to death by his son using a wooden plank. The victim, identified as Sharat Mohanty, was rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries (!!)
Sources,An incident involving a family dispute occurred in the Tota Sahi area under the Gosaninuagaon Police Station on Sunday, which resulted in the death of a father.
According to the Police On 14.06.2026, Sunita Mohanty (32) lodged a written report stating that Biraja Prasad Mohanty (46) assaulted his parents, Sarat Chandra Mohanty and Pratima Mohanty, at their house in Tota Sahi under Gosaninuagaon Police Station limits. As a result of the assault, Sarat Chandra Mohanty sustained grievous injuries and was declared dead during treatment at MKCG Medical College & Hospital, Berhampur. His wife, Pratima Mohanty, also received fatal injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
Investigation has disclosed that the incident occurred due to a domestic dispute over division of property. The accused, Biraja Prasad Mohanty, was arrested on 14.06.2026 at 11:30 PM. A wooden plank (weapon of offence), along with biological samples and wearing apparels of the deceased and the accused, have been seized. The accused has been forwarded to the Hon’ble Court on 15.06.2026.
Pratap Das,Inspector –in-Charge and expert associates officers are actively investigating the tragic incident where an altercation escalated into a violent assault. The accused Tuku attacked the father following a dispute over money.
