Odisha Police Rescues 17,590 Missing Women and Children Between January and June 2026

Brahmapur, September 3, 2026: Odisha Police has achieved a significant success in tracing and safely rescuing missing women and children and reuniting them with their families.
A total of 17,590 missing women and children were rescued across the state between January and June 2026.
The achievement was made possible under the direct guidance of Odisha Director General of Police Y.B. Khurania, along with sustained efforts by the Crime Against Women & Children (CAW & CW) wing, investigation teams and effective inter-state coordination.
According to the Odisha Police press note dated August 1, 2026, a total of 4,873 children were reported missing in the state during the first six months of 2026. The figure included 538 boys, 4,334 girls and one transgender child. During the same period, police successfully rescued 5,413 children.
In child rescue operations, Puri district recorded the highest number of recoveries with 1,161 children, followed by UPD Bhubaneswar with 399 and Mayurbhanj with 278.
Similarly, 10,605 women were reported missing in Odisha between January and June 2026, while police rescued 12,177 missing women during the period.
Puri district again topped the state in rescuing missing women, with 3,713 women rescued, followed by Jajpur with 820 and Ganjam with 581.
With the rescue of 1,161 children and 3,713 women, Puri emerged as the best-performing district in the state in terms of tracing and rescuing missing women and children.
As part of its continuing efforts, the Women and Child Protection Wing has been regularly conducting special drives under “Operation Anveshan” to trace missing women and children.
Two special operations have been conducted so far this year. During the latest operation held from July 18 to July 22, 2026, Odisha Police successfully rescued 321 missing children, including 35 boys and 286 girls, along with 2,434 missing women.
Odisha Police has reiterated that the safety and security of women and children remain a top priority. Such special operations will be expanded and intensified in the coming days to ensure that more missing persons are traced, rescued and reunited with their families.
