The accused has been identified as Kanhei Mohanty (26), son of Murali Mohanty, of Bhramarapurpalli village under Digapahandi police station in Ganjam district.

According to police, K. Nuagaon Police Station Case No. 226, dated October 10, 2026, was registered under Sections 296, 69 and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on the victim’s written complaint.

During the investigation, police found that the accused had come into contact with the victim through Instagram in 2025. The complaint alleged that in November 2025, he took her to Ujjaleswar Temple at Khamarigaon and established physical relations with her without her consent.

Police further stated that the accused allegedly took ₹6,000 from the victim in August 2025 and continued to obtain money from her on different occasions. When she subsequently tried to contact him over the phone, he allegedly stopped responding.

The complaint further alleged that in April 2026, the accused assured the victim that they would live together and, on that pretext, obtained ₹3 lakh from her. The amount had reportedly been withdrawn from her Postal Bank account. He also allegedly took her mobile phone, but neither the money nor the phone was returned.

Following the investigation, police arrested Kanhei Mohanty and forwarded him to the court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Digapahandi, on October 11, 2026.
