Brahmapur Woman Allegedly Attacked with Sword; 66-Year-Old Accused Arrested

Brahmapur, October 12, 2026: Baidyanathpur Police have arrested a 66-year-old man in connection with an alleged assault on a woman with a small sword near Sales Tax Chhak in Brahmapur.
The accused was arrested on Monday evening and subsequently forwarded to the court of the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM), Brahmapur, with a prayer for judicial remand, the IIC, Subrat Kumar Beura said.
In this context.,a case was registered at Police Station vide Case No. 524 dated October 12, 2026, under Sections 74, 109(1), 351(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the complaint, the incident occurred at around 3:45 PM on October 12, when the accused allegedly approached the woman on a motorcycle, carrying a small sword inside a bag.
He allegedly made indecent and objectionable remarks towards her. When she objected, he reportedly threatened to kill her, snatched the key to her vehicle and fled from the spot.The complainant allegedly chased him and located him near Sales Tax Chhak.
During the subsequent confrontation, the accused allegedly attacked her with the small sword with the intention of causing death. She sustained an injury to her right upper arm, following which the accused reportedly fled.
The 66 years accused Apprehended:- On the strength of the written complaint, by the injured Woman Baidyanathpur Police registered a case and initiated an investigation.
The investigating team examined the complainant and other witnesses and recorded their statements. However, police have not clear the injury and medical examination.(!) List of seizure and the motive of the accuse why he assaulted a (young/ Old) lady and any other relationship not clear lady belong to (?).
Police managed to apprehended the accused at around late evening three hours after the reported FIR of the incident.
The accused identified as Santosh Kumar Rath (66), son of Late Bipra Charan Rath. He originally hails from Baulijholi under Brahmapur Sadar Police Station limits and is presently residing in RDC Colony under Baidyanathpur Police Station limits in City.The accused was arrested after completion of the required legal formalitiesand input.
