In Rayagada town: Man chased, shot at, kidnapped, murdered & thrown at Nagavali river bank near Tumbiguda village

Rayagada, May 10: A young man named Nikhil Hadipa belonging to Reli Sahi under Rayagada Municipality was chased in Indira Nagar 3rd line by some unidentified assailants, who came by a four wheeler & a bullet motorbike at about 10.30 PM last Saturday. While Nikhil had some arguments & being frightened, ran into a nearby house to take refuge, one of the assailants fired point blank at the leg of Nikihil & dragged him away from the house, coercively kidnapped him & moved towards ring road. At about 12.50 AM, Nikhil’s mother lodged an FIR in Rayagada police station about missing of her son. Next morning, the dead body of Nikhil at Nagavali river bank near Tumbiguda village was discovered. Locals have staged a protest in front of Rayagada police station demanding justice to the family of the deceased.

 
A scientific team alongwith SP Swathy Kumar reached the spot early in the morning and began collecting evidence. Police recovered a used cartridge case from the scene and launched a detailed investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that previous enmity may have led to the murder, though investigators are exploring all possible motives. “Rayagada Town Police Station immediately registered a case and launched an investigation. Four police teams have been constituted for the manhaunt. The accused, who are still absconding, have been identified. This morning, we received information about his death. All efforts are being made to arrest the accused at the earliest,” said Rayagada SP Swathi S Kumar.     

 
The incident has cast a shadow of terror in the Indira Nagar area, with residents expressing concern over the growing law and order situation. Police have appealed to anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation. In his Facebook social handle local MLA Appalaswamy Kadraka has expressed his grave concern over the present law & order situation in the area and appealed CM Mohan Majhi to proact with immediate effect
