Habitual Offenders Arrested for Chicken Shop Theft in Berhampur

Brahmapur, July 30: Badabazar Police have arrested two habitual offenders for their alleged involvement in a theft at a chicken shop in Berhampur and recovered part of the stolen property.
The arrests were made in connection with Badabazar Police Station Case No. 562, dated July 29, 2026, registered under Sections 331(4), 305(a) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused have been identified as Sitesh Ghadei (22), son of Jyoti Ghadei, and Jiten Mukhi (18+), son of Mani Mukhi. Both are residents of Dhanamera Sahi under Badabazar Police Station limits in Berhampur.
According to police, the case was registered following a complaint lodged by Santosh Dakua, who operates a chicken centre near Dhanamera Sahi on Aska Road.
The complainant reported that on the morning of July 29, he found the lock of his shop cabin broken and several items missing, including a Hi-Tech electronic weighing machine, an inverter machine and cash amounting to Rs.4,800.
During the investigation, police gathered credible information that the two accused had broken into the shop during the intervening night of July 27 and 28. Acting on the lead, a police team conducted a raid and apprehended both suspects. The stolen electronic weighing machine along with two batteries was recovered from their possession.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the theft. They also disclosed their involvement in another theft committed on June 30, 2026, in Phulasundari Sahi, Berhampur, where they allegedly stole electric cables, a flow meter display, a flow meter panel and other materials before selling them to a scrap dealer.
Police said both accused are habitual offenders with previous criminal records. Sitesh Ghadei is involved in two criminal cases, while Jiten Mukhi has been named in five previous cases.
The duo was arrested on July 30 and produced before the Hon’ble SDJM Court, Berhampur. Police said further investigation into the case is in progress.
