Gopalpur Police Arrest Youth for Sword Attack Over Cattle Shed Dispute

Brahmapur,July 30: Gopalpur Police have arrested an 18-year-old youth for allegedly attacking a man with a sword following a dispute over a temporary cattle shed near a rented house at Gopalpur.

The accused has been identified as Raja Kumar Ratha (18), son of Late Mitu Kumar Ratha and a resident of Gopalpur Main Road. He was arrested in connection with Gopalpur Police Station Case No. 437 dated July 29, 2026, registered under Sections 296, 115(2), 109 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.

According to police, the case was registered on the complaint of Manoranjan Badatya (45), a sweet shop owner from Sigidi Sai Street, Gopalpur.

The investigation revealed that at around 6:00 PM on July 29, an argument broke out after the accused allegedly demanded the removal of a temporary cattle shed erected by the complainant near his rented residence.

The altercation soon turned violent, with the accused allegedly abusing the complainant in obscene language before assaulting him with kicks, slaps and punches.

Police said the accused then allegedly attacked the complainant with a large iron sword, aiming at his neck with the intention to kill him. The complainant managed to grab the weapon during the attack and sustained injuries while preventing the assault.

Before fleeing the spot, the accused allegedly threatened to kill the complainant.

During the course of the investigation, Gopalpur Police recovered the iron sword allegedly used in the offence from the possession of the accused.

The accused was arrested on July 30 and produced before the court.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
