Gopalpur Police Arrest Six in Two Cross-Cases Ganesh Puja-Related Group Clash

Gopalpur-On- Sea,3rd,Oct,26:Gopalpur Police have arrested six persons in connection with two cross-cases registered over a group clash near Monark Chhak, close to Berhampur University, allegedly arising from previous enmity between two groups during the Ganesh Puja immersion procession.
According to police, the dispute stemmed from previous enmity between two groups from the Rangeilunda and Balaji Nagar, Mandiapalli areas during the Ganesh Puja immersion procession. On October 1, at around 8 PM, members of both groups allegedly exchanged abuses and threats over the phone.
Later, at around 11:30 PM, another confrontation took place near Monark Chhak, Berhampur University.
As per the case records, D. Manoj Kumar Patra (26), along with his friends Siba Prasad Nayak and Rabindra Nayak, was supplying water cans in a Tata ACE vehicle bearing registration number OD-07-AQ-3892. The vehicle reportedly developed a mechanical problem near Monark Chhak.
After receiving information, Siba Prasad Nayak reached the spot in a battery-operated auto bearing registration number OD-07-AY-2086, while Rabindra Nayak arrived on a scooty. While they were unloading water bottles, the other group, comprising Hemanta Kumar Gouda, Rakesh Kumar Nayak and Akhaya Das, allegedly reached the spot on a scooty.
Police said the two groups then allegedly exchanged abuses and engaged in a physical confrontation. Weapons including rods and bamboo sticks were allegedly used during the assault, resulting in injuries to Manoj Kumar Patra and Siba Prasad Nayak, including injuries to the face and area near the eye.
Both sides subsequently lodged written reports, leading to registration of the two cross-cases.
Three Arrested in Case No. 572/26
In Gopalpur PS Case No. 572/26, police arrested:
Akhaya Das (20), son of Hina Das
Rakesh Kumar Nayak (26), son of Prafulla Nayak
Hemanta Kumar Gouda (23), son of Narayana Gouda
All three are residents of Balaji Nagar, Mandiapalli under Gopalpur Police Station.
Police seized one steel rod, two bamboo sticks, a black Suzuki Access scooter bearing registration number OD-07-AK-8312, besides the Tata ACE and battery-operated auto allegedly connected with the incident.
Three Arrested in Cross-Case No. 573/26
In the cross-case, Gopalpur PS Case No. 573/26, police arrested:
D. Manoj Kumar Patra (26), son of D. Lokanath Patra, Rangeilunda
Siba Prasad Nayak (26), son of Suparaj Nayak, Gobindapur under Chamakhandi PS
Rabindra Nayak (39), son of Krushna Nayak, Balaji Nagar, Mandiapalli
Police also seized one iron rod from the possession of the accused persons in the cross-case.
Investigation Underway:-Police said prima-facie evidence was found against all six accused during the investigation.
The investigating team examined the complainants, eyewitnesses and seizure witnesses, visited the spot and recorded statements under Section 180 BNSS.
All six accused were arrested after observing the prescribed legal formalities.
he grounds of arrest were communicated to them in writing, following which they were medically examined and produced before the JMFC(R), Berhampur, on October 3, 2026, with a prayer for 14 days’ judicial custody remand.
Further investigation in both cases is underway.
