Brahmapur Nimakhandi Police Arrest Man in Extortion, Criminal Intimidation and Defamation Case

Brahmapur: Nimakhandi Police have arrested a 34-year-old man in connection with an alleged case of extortion, criminal intimidation and defamation registered on October 3, 2026.
The accused has been identified as Prashant Sethi (34), of Jhadankuli under Nimakhandi police limits, presently residing at Basanta Vihar 4th Lane, Ambapua, under Gopalpur police limits in Ganjam district.
According to the police, the case was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by L. Mohan Dash (40), son of Ishwar Dash of Lochapada. The complainant is stated to be the Sarpanch of the locality.
Allegations in the Complaint
As per the complaint, Sethi and his associates were allegedly involved in gambling and other unlawful activities in the Lochapada area. The complainant alleged that for the past 10–15 days, such activities had resulted in quarrels and disturbances, affecting public peace.
The complainant further alleged that when he opposed the activities, Sethi allegedly circulated false, defamatory and insulting content about his personal relationships through social media. He also allegedly demanded extortion money and threatened to kill the complainant.
The alleged acts caused fear and mental distress to the complainant and, according to the complaint, affected his social reputation.
Based on the complaint, Nimakhandi PS Case No. 309 dated 03.10.2026 was registered under Sections 296/308(5)/356(2)/351(2)/111(2)/3(5) of the BNS.
Mobile Phone, Vehicle and Social Media Material Seized
During the investigation, police seized:
One Vivo V60 mobile phone containing mobile number 6372454710;
One Honda Aviator, registration No. OD-07-AD-3805; and
Printouts/extracts of the relevant social media posts.
Police said the arrested accused was subsequently forwarded to the Hon’ble Court.
Police are investigating the alleged involvement of other associates in the case. Further investigation is continuing.
