Brahmapur, Sept. 15: Tension gripped Kukudakhandi on Monday night after a group of motorcycle-borne miscreants allegedly hurled four crude bombs at Harijan Street (Harijan Sahi) under the jurisdiction of Berhampur Sadar Police Station.
According to preliminary information available to Odishabarta, the group allegedly arrived in the locality on around five motorcycles and hurled four bombs, creating panic among residents. The exact motive behind the attack and the identity of those involved are yet to be officially established.
The incident reportedly occurred only hours after a local youth was allegedly attacked with a sword on the Kukudakhandi main road. The youth sustained injuries in the attack. Police are expected to ascertain whether the two incidents are connected.
Villagers Chase Suspects;
Following the bombing, the suspected attackers allegedly attempted to escape from the area on their motorcycles. Angry villagers reportedly chased them and pelted stones at the fleeing group.
During the commotion, two suspected persons allegedly fell from their motorcycles and were subsequently detained by local residents. The two were reportedly restrained by villagers until police reached the spot.
The situation became tense when police personnel attempted to rescue the detained persons from the crowd.
Police Rush to Spot
Berhampur Sadar Police immediately moved to the spot with additional personnel to bring the situation under control and prevent further escalation.
According to local information,acting promptly in action IIC,Sadar Police Station Ms. Suchitra Parida rushed to the affected area along with her team and engaged with the aggrieved villagers.
Her immediate presence and efforts to convince the residents reportedly helped police manage the tense situation and prevent the confrontation from escalating further.

A substantial police force was subsequently deployed in and around the locality as a precautionary measure. Police personnel remained present to maintain law and order and to prevent any further confrontation between the local residents and the suspected attackers.
Investigation Underway-The circumstances leading to the bomb attack, the earlier sword assault and the possible connection between the two incidents are now under investigation.
Police are also expected to examine the motorcycles, identify the persons involved and ascertain the nature of the explosive materials allegedly used in the attack.
The detention of the two suspects by villagers does not by itself establish their involvement in the bombing.
Their role will have to be determined through police investigation and due legal process.
The situation in Kukudakhandi is being closely monitored by police, while efforts are underway to restore complete normalcy in the area.
