BERHAMPUR POLICE SUCCESSFULLY BUSTED IPL BETTING RACKET.

Berhampur,( 30/04/26); Berhampur Police have indeed conducted a major crackdown on illegal online betting, specifically targeting IPL betting racket on Thursday.
On Thursday a press note was released by Mr.Alok Jena.ASP Berhampur Police district head quarter as stated that, the operation resulted in the arrest of at least two key individuals, Rohit Mohanty (32) and Badal Gouda,following a raid on a mobile shop in Sai Complex, Gandhi Nagar, on April 29, 2026 by Asish Kumar Swain,IIC,Bada Bazar and Subramanyu Pradhan,IIC,B.Town.
The suspects were allegedly using the “Sky Exchange” app to accept bets on IPL matches .
The release reveal that,On 29.04.2026 at about 9:30 PM, SI S. Behera of Bada Bazar PS along with other PS staff while conducting routine patrolling at First Gate, Berhampur, received reliable information regarding illegal online betting activities being conducted near Binayaka Acharya College pond. Acting swiftly, a police team conducted a raid at the spot.
On verification, it was found that the accused was facilitating betting by providing IDs and passwords to various persons via WhatsApp. He also disclosed that he directly purchased the panel of betting from online platform and sent the same to his customers by showing and saying it as genuine and approved by law.
Further, an amount of approximately Rs 33,257/- has been frozen in Six different bank accounts, which were being used for online betting transactions.
A case has been registered at Badabazar PS under relevant sections of BNS, IT Act, PCMC (Banning) Act, and Odisha Public Gambling Act. The accused Babu @ Badal Gouda has been arrested on 30.04.2026t.
The accused Babu @ Badal Gouda is previously engaged in similar type of offence i.e. Badabazar PS Case No. 457 dtd.19.11.2023 U/s 3 OPG Act.
The police have seized the following from the possession of Badal Gouda
1.One Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 bearing IMEI Nos.355566790385307/06, SIM No.6370000757,
2. One Iphone 17 Pro bearing IMEI-355159675818731 and SIM NO-7205798601,
3. One VIVO V27 bearing IMEI Nos. 864288064684869/77 and SIM No-9861366318,
4. Screen shot copies of betting websites and money transactions and text, IDs and Pass word given details.
5. 6 Nos of Bank Accounts Feezed (Freez Amount of Rs.33,257/-)
Similarly in another operation by the BerhampurTown Policd that,
On 29.04.2026 at about 9:30 PM, SI Ranajit Kumar Dash of Berhampur Town PS, along with staff conducting during routine patrolling near Ramalingam Tank area, Berhampur, on receiving reliable information regarding illegal online betting activities being conducted at Subham Mobile Shop, Sai Complex, Gandhi Nagar. Acting swiftly, a police team conducted a raid at the spot.
During the raid, accused Rohit Mohanty (32 yrs) of Baikuntha Nagar, Berhampur was apprehended while actively engaged in online betting using mobile devices through the platform “Sky Exchange.” He attempted to flee but was overpowered by the police team.
On verification, it was found that the accused was facilitating betting by providing IDs and passwords to various persons via WhatsApp. He also disclosed involvement of another person, identified as Raj Kishore Samal, as the main operator of the network.
Further, an amount of approximately Rs 17 lakh has been frozen in three different bank accounts, which were being used for online betting transactions.
A case has been registered at Berhampur Town P.S. under relevant sections of BNS, IT Act, PCMC (Banning) Act, and Odisha Public Gambling Act. The accused Rohit Mohanty has been arrested on30.04.2026 and forwarded to court. Investigation is ongoing to trace other persons involved in the racket.

Cash of Rs 37,000/- Only of different denomination.
