Police Works under mental pressure at Police Stations
Yes, it is absolutely true. Police personnel working at the Police Station (PS) level operate under immense, often overwhelming, pressure. Ground-level officers, especially Inspectors-in-Charge (IICs), Sub-Inspectors (SIs), and Constables, juggle multiple high-stress duties with limited resources.
Several specific factors contribute to the heavy pressure they face every day.
Nonstop Work Hours: Studies and surveys have highlighted that grassroots police personnel often work gruelling hours, averaging well over 10 to 14 hours at PS in a day. ( Group call, pending disposal ,court forwarding, court duty, DPO atendence, evening patrolling ,incident, happenings, warrant drive, night duty .ong Chain)The lack of structured off-days and missed festivals make it difficult to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
Public Expectations are always high and hopefully; There is immense pressure to improve drive,IPL. Robbery, snatching, assault cases etc rates and swiftly resolve cases while answering directly to the public and political leadership.
Normally people visits police station with a impression so that they can present their issue directly face to face with IIC.
But they failed to meet ,most of the evening hours IIC engaged with ASP round visit at PS .Ruling say SDPO can visit PS to PS under his Sub- division any time to take the stock of the PS because of he is accountable the report of PS of his sub- Division to higher authority/ Factually ASP visits to PS killing the valuable time of long awaited visitors.
During the tenure of Radha Krishan Sharma ,IPS here in City as SP,Berhampur subsequently IG(SR) issued a strict communication that the ASPs’ have no work at PS, if their visit related to case Study/ review/examination he can call the record to his Office otherwise the IIC may in balanced to work in presence of authority disturbed(?).
The reason when any visitor at police stations they are not getting comfortable scope for an appointment to put forth their grievance directly to the IIC, but intellectual do not have confidence to report other officers available at PS He/She why they reluctant and their mind set,(!).
Overlapping Duties: PS-level officers do not just investigate crimes; they must manage law-and-order situations, VIP security, traffic management, and administrative paperwork court CD writing all at once.
