Miscreants Cut & Open ATM, Loot Lakhs In Odisha State Capital

BHUBANESWAR: Unidentified miscreants looted more than Rs 25 lakhs from a Punjab National Bank ATM by cutting open the machine located on Patia railway station road under Info-City police limits here on Saturday night, police said.

The matter came to light this morning after some locals spotted the ATM vandalised and alerted the same to the police. Info-City police along with a scientific team reached the spot and launched a probe into the matter, sources said.

While the investigation is on, police suspects the robbers used a gas cutter to cut the ATM.(!).

Notably, the loot happened late night and exact time of it could be traced from the CCTV footage, Police examination divulges.

In this connection an FIR has already been lodged in the police station about the case. Police have launched their serious investigation into the matter.

Commissionerate police said that lack of coordination between the bank authorities and the firm engaged in the maintaining and loading cash in the ATM led to the crime.

The ATM counter was shut since October 9 night and there was no security facility. Someone having technical skill might be involved in the loot, “according to ACP.
