13 Arrested for Mob Violence, Illegal Confinement and Obstruction of Police

Brahmapur, Sept 27:Brahmapur Sadar Police have arrested 13 persons in connection with an incident involving alleged mob violence, illegal confinement, obstruction of police duty and damage to government property at Kukudakhandi Harijan Sahi.
The incident occurred on September 14, 2026, at around 4 PM, when an armed group of around 8–10 persons allegedly arrived at Kukudakhandi Bauri Sahi on motorcycles carrying weapons, including swords.
The group also allegedly hurled two jute bombs, triggering panic among local residents.
According to police, local residents apprehended two members of the alleged group along with two vehicles—Bajaj Pulsar bearing registration number OD-07-AB-8486 and a Scooty bearing registration number OD-07-BG-1468.
Police said one of the apprehended persons was allegedly assaulted and sustained bleeding injuries, while another was allegedly confined inside a community room.
On receiving information, a police team reached the spot to rescue the persons and discharge its lawful duties. However, police alleged that a local mob obstructed the police personnel, pelted stones at the police vehicle, damaged government property and allegedly threatened and abused the personnel.
One person allegedly remained locked inside the community room until around 2 AM, following which senior police officers, additional police force and the Executive Magistrate-cum-Tahasildar, Kukudakhandi, intervened. The confined person was rescued and shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Brahmapur, for treatment.
Police Case Registered
On the plain-paper FIR of Inspector Suchitra Parida, IIC, Brahmapur Sadar Police Station, Brahmapur Sadar PS Case No. 584 dated September 15, 2026, was registered under Sections 189(2)/189(5)/190/191(2)/195(2)/132/127(2)/324(3)/324(6)/115(2)/109 of the BNS, read with Section 3(1) of the PDPP Act.
Police said the investigation included a spot visit, examination of witnesses, recording of statements and preparation of the spot map.
Three Related Cases Registered
Police have also registered three related cases in connection with the chain of incidents:
Brahmapur Sadar PS Case No. 583 dated September 14, 2026 — registered under Sections 126(2)/118(1)/109/351(2)/3(5) BNS in connection with the alleged attack on a person at Kukudakhandi.
Brahmapur Sadar PS Case No. 585 dated September 15, 2026 — registered under Sections 126(2)/296/109/351(2)/190 BNS, read with Section 27 of the Arms Act and Sections 3/4 of the Explosive Substances Act, concerning the alleged bomb hurling and creation of panic by an armed group.
Brahmapur Sadar PS Case No. 592 dated September 19, 2026 — registered under Sections 126(2)/296/118(2)/109/324(4)/303(2)/351(2)/3(5) BNS, read with Section 27 of the Arms Act, concerning the alleged assault on an apprehended member of the armed group by local residents.
13 Arrested:-
During the investigation, police arrested 13 persons allegedly involved in the mob violence, obstruction of police duty and illegal confinement. Police said all legal formalities were followed before the arrested persons were forwarded to the competent court.
Further investigation into all the cases is underway.
Police Appeal
Brahmapur Police have appealed to the public to maintain peace and law and order and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
Police warned that stringent legal action would be taken against persons found involved in mob violence, illegal confinement, damage to public property or obstruction of police personnel in the discharge of their lawful duties.
