EXCELLENT POLICE PERFORMANCE: BADABAZAR POLICE ARREST ACCUSED FROM HYDERABAD IN Rs.1.25 CRORE PROPERTY FRAUD CASE

BERHAMPUR, SEPTEMBER 10, 2026: In a significant breakthrough, Badabazar Police have arrested a 35-year-old man from Hyderabad in connection with an alleged ₹1.25 crore property fraud case, demonstrating effective investigation and prompt police action in a complex property-related cheating case.
The arrested accused has been identified as Rakesh Kumar Patra. He was arrested on September 8, 2026, and subsequently forwarded to the Court of the Hon’ble SDJM, Berhampur, on September 9.
According to police, the case was registered on August 23, 2026, on the basis of a written complaint lodged by P. Swapnarani Patro of Kedarpeta Road, at Badabazar Police Station.
Badabazar PS Case No. 640 was registered under Sections 296, 318(4), 336(3), 338, 340(2), 351(2) and 61(2)B of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
ALLEGED Rs.1.25 CRORE PROPERTY FRAUD
During the course of investigation, police allegedly found that Rakesh Kumar Patra, along with co-accused Aparna Patro, had approached the complainant with an offer to sell Flat No. 905 at Marina Skies, Greenhills Road, Moosapet, Hyderabad.
Police said the accused allegedly produced forged sale deed documents and identification credentials to create an impression that he possessed valid ownership rights over the property.
Believing the representations, the complainant allegedly paid a total amount of ₹1,25,00,000 through UPI/PhonePe transactions, bank transfers and cash payments.
The complainant later allegedly discovered that the flat was not registered in the name of Rakesh Kumar Patra, but in the name of his brother, Rudranarayana Patro.
THREATS ALLEGED AFTER DISCOVERY
According to the police case, after the complainant confronted the accused persons and subsequently served a legal notice, she and her husband were allegedly threatened and subjected to obscene and abusive language.
Police thereafter intensified the investigation to trace the accused and verify the documents and financial transactions connected with the alleged fraud.
POLICE RAID LEADS TO ARREST
Acting on intelligence inputs and during the course of investigation, Badabazar Police conducted a raid and apprehended Rakesh Kumar Patra on September 8, 2026.
Police said several articles and documents relevant to the investigation were seized from his possession, including:
One Apple iPhone.
Allegedly forged property documents and transfer papers
Transaction-related records
54 sheets containing PhonePe payment screenshots
The accused was formally arrested at around 6:30 PM on September 8 and was forwarded to the Hon’ble Court of the SDJM, Berhampur, on September 9.
FURTHER INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY
Police said the investigation is continuing to establish the complete sequence of transactions, verify the authenticity of the documents allegedly used in the property deal and ascertain the role of other persons who may have been involved.
The investigation will also examine the financial trail of the alleged ₹1.25 crore transaction and the circumstances under which the disputed property documents were allegedly prepared and presented to the complainant.
The arrest and seizure mark a significant development in the case, reflecting the efforts of Badabazar Police to trace the accused and pursue the alleged financial fraud across jurisdictions.
