Rs.1.40 Crore Land Fraud Case: Berhampur Town Police Arrest One

The complaint relates to agreements for sale executed on January 5 and January 24, 2023, concerning Ac. 4.1120 decimals of land at Mouza Shankarpur under Berhampur Tahasil. The total sale consideration was reportedly fixed at ₹2.77 crore.

The complainant alleged that he paid ₹1.40 crore as advance through bank transactions and cash. He further alleged that ₹60,000 was paid to the accused through GPay on February 13, 2025, towards expenses for obtaining a legal heir certificate.

However, despite receiving the money, the accused allegedly failed to execute the sale deed or refund the amount. The complainant further alleged that the property was subsequently sold to a third party without his knowledge. When he demanded repayment, he was allegedly threatened.

During the investigation, police seized the relevant agreement papers, affidavits and GPay transaction records and examined witnesses in connection with the case.

Police said Mishra was initially issued a notice under Section 35(3) of the BNSS on September 7, 2026 and was released thereafter. However, he allegedly contacted the complainant through a WhatsApp voice call and threatened him with the intention of making him withdraw the case.

Following the alleged violation of the notice conditions, police arrested Mishra at around 10 am on September 8 and forwarded him to the SDJM Court, Berhampur, seeking 15 days’ judicial custody.

Police said further investigation is continuing, including efforts to apprehend the other accused persons and recover the allegedly cheated amount.
