Accused Arrested; in Assault and Criminal Intimidation Case

BERHAMPUR, September 8, 2026: Berhampur Sadar Police arrested and forwarded an accused to court on Tuesday in connection with a case involving alleged violent assault and criminal intimidation arising out of political rivalry in the Nalihada area of Ganjam district.

The accused was identified as Chiranjibi @ Barahabhenket Sangram Singh (36), son of Hrusikesh Sangram Singh, of Nalihada village under Berhampur Sadar Police Station.

According to the complaint lodged by Siba Gouda, the incident allegedly took place on September 1, 2026, at around 8:30 PM near the complainant’s residence. Police said that, following an alleged pre-existing political rivalry, the accused confronted the complainant, allegedly abused him and assaulted him with fist blows.

During the alleged assault, the accused reportedly bit the complainant on the chin, causing bleeding injuries. He also allegedly threatened to kill the complainant if the incident was reported to police.

In this connection, Berhampur Sadar PS Case No. 562, dated September 2, 2026, was registered under Sections 126(2)/296/115(2)/118(1)/351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

As part of the investigation, police collected medical reports and examined witnesses. According to police, the materials collected during the investigation supported the allegations made in the complaint.

Following due legal procedure, the accused was arrested on September 8 at around 12:30 PM and subsequently forwarded to the court.
