Bhubaneswar,(28/03/26):The Odisha Police has suspended the personal security officer (PSO) of Titilagarh MLA Nabin Kumar Jain in connection with the alleged celebratory firing by the legislator during a procession on the occasion of Ram Navami in Balangir district friday.
Jain’s PSO Premchand Nag has been placed under suspension following an interrogation by senior officials of Odisha Police, including Inspector General of Police (Northern Range) Himanshu Lal, reports said.
As per reports, the Odisha Police initiated disciplinary action against Nag for not preventing the Titilagarh MLA from resorting to celebratory firing during the Ram Navami celebration.
The Titilagarh police in Balangiri have registered a case in this regard and launched a probe.
It is worth mentioning here that the MLA reportedly fired shots in the air using a gun during the Ram Navami procession at Titilagarh on Friday. A video of the incident later went viral on social media.

A controversy has erupted in Titilagarh following an incident involving local MLA Nabin Jain, who was seen firing a blank shot in a dramatic, film-style manner during a Ram Navami procession.
The incident took place near Shastri Chowk amid a large and vibrant procession organised as part of the Ram Navami celebrations.
According to eyewitnesses, the MLA took a revolver from his Personal Security Officer (PSO) and fired a blank shot into the air in full public view.
The PSO was also seen assisting him by holding and raising his hand while the shot was fired.
Following the emergence of the incident, Premchand Nag, the Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Titilagarh MLA Nabin Jain, has been summoned to the Bolangir District Police Headquarters.
After investigation and confrontation PSO Prem Chand Nag Suspended, informed SP .
Bolangir SP has stated that the matter will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action will be taken up onlookers and sparking widespread discussion.
The act has since become a major talking point in the region, with questions being raised over public safety and the appropriateness of such actions by an elected representative during a crowded public event(!)
When contacted for a response, MLA Nabin Jain stated that the act was intended to boost the enthusiasm and spirit of the devotees participating in the procession.
The incident continues to generate debate, with many calling for clarity on security protocols and accountability in public gatherings.

Jain, however, claimed that he fired from a toy gun to energise the crowd during the religious procession.
The Balangir police, meanwhile, revealed that three shots were fired from a .32 Bore pistol during the Ram Navami procession.
“The police have seized the gun and initiated a probe into the alleged celebratory firing,” said Balangir Additional SP Himanshu Bhusan Behera.
