Delhi Minister Raaj Kumar Anand Resigns From Cabinet, Quits AAP Citing Corruption
New Delhi: Delhi Minister Raj Kumar Anand has resigned from his Cabinet position and parted ways with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), citing concerns over inadequate representation of Dalits within the party’s leadership.
Anand, who held significant portfolios including Social Welfare, highlighted the absence of Dalit leaders among the top ranks of AAP. He expressed disappointment, stating that the party failed to respect Dalit MLAs, councillors, and ministers, leading to feelings of betrayal among the community.
In a press conference, Anand criticized Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently in Tihar jail over a money laundering case related to excise policy. He emphasized Kejriwal’s earlier stance on changing politics, remarking on the discrepancy between rhetoric and action.
Responding to questions about the timing of his resignation, Anand clarified that recent events, including the Delhi High Court’s decision to uphold Kejriwal’s arrest, influenced his decision.
The High Court maintained that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had limited options following Kejriwal’s repeated refusal to cooperate with summonses, alleging his involvement in the concealment of proceeds of crime.
