WORLD HORMONE DAY celebration by Swasthya Sadan

25th April 2026: Every year April 24th is celebrated as World Hormone Day across the globe to create awareness among general public about Hormone imbalance related disorders. As a first such move in South Odisha, Dr Sunil Kumar Kota, Endocrinologist from Swasthya Sadan, Berhampur has organized a unique initiative in this regard. He has tied up with Four educational institutes of Berhampur ie IISER, Delhi Public Senior Secondary School (DPSSS), Roland Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (RIPS) and Roland Institute of Technology (RIT). The teaching, non teaching staff and students of the respective institutes were subjected to comprehensive health examination including blood sugar, blood pressure, thyroid, Liver and kidney function, Lipid profile, Uric acid, Fibroscan of Liver and Eye testing. All total near about 450 staff from above 4 institutes were subjected to this battery of tests in a complimentary basis.
Among hormone imbalance related disorders, the common ones include Obesity, Diabetes, Thyroid disorders, Hypertension, PCOS etc. Lifestyle derangement potentiates early onset of all these disorders and increased occurrence of complications. And in substantial number of people, these disorders are silent in nature presenting without any symptoms and signs. Therefore it is imperative on people to subject themselves to these screening modalities periodically.
An interactive awareness session was also conducted with the staff and students of the respective institutes about these common hormone imbalances stressing importance upon diet modification, regular exercise and timely testing to rule out presence of these disorders. Shri Pradeep Kumar Ray, Registrar, Dr Blessymol Varghese, Medical Officer from IISER; Sri B N Pattnaik, Principal, SmtAdhirakhi Satpathy, Vice Principal , Delhi Public Senior Secondary School (DPSSS); Dr B V V Ravi Kumar, Principal, Dr Ch Niranjan Patro, Vice Principal, Roland Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (RIPS); Dr Gunamani Jena, Principal, Dr Rakesh Ranjan Polai from Roland Institute of Technology (RIT)RIT were amongst the present. They lauded and thanked Dr Kota and his team of volunteers for this noble gesture. Shri Pradeep Kumar ray, Registrar, IISER later felicitated Dr Sunil Kota with a memento, shawl and coffee mug commemorating 10 years of IISER. Furthermore, Dr Kota stated that similar kind of activity is being planned for the staff of Collectorate and Zilla parishad, Ganjam on 29th April 2026 at ZP office, Chhatrapur under Chairmanship of Sri Keerthi Vasan, District Collector and guidance of Sri Samir Kumar Jena, Chief Development Officer cum Executive Officer, Ganjam.
