Week-long Environment Day Celebration at Utkal Alumina

Kashipur, Rayagada, 10th June 2023– A week-long World Environment Day observed at Utkal Alumina International limited, a subsidiary of Hindalco Industries limited of Aditya Birla Group from 5thJune to 11thJune 2023. A series of activities and events were organized by involving employees, families, partner establishments and community with the aim of promoting environmental awareness and addressing the pressing issues of plastic pollution, under the theme of #BeatPlasticPollution.
As a part of the celebration, the Environment team of UAIL organized various activities, including plantation drives within the plant, township, and surrounding community areas. Various awareness programs and competitions such as drawing and quiz contestsfocusing on environmental themes were conducted amongemployees, family members, partner organizations, and local villagers. “Nukad Natak” performance was staged to raise awareness among the community.
Similarly, World Environment Day was observed at Baphlimali Bauxite Mine with great enthusiasm and participation. The event commenced with an environmental oath, followed by plantation activities. Over 200 employees planted native saplings and took pledge to nurture them until they become self-sustainable.
In this order, a community event was organized under Utkal Alumina’s project “UANAT”atBariaguda village of Kashipur block on 9th June 2023. It began with a session on environmental awareness followed by pledge-taking ceremony towards protecting & conserving the environmentand eliminating single use of plastic. Progressive farmers were honored during the occasion for their exceptional achievements in environmental protection through organic farming. Seed ball preparation, Vermicompost & organic pesticide preparation and transplantation are the practical activities undertaken during the event by engaging the community and employee volunteers of Utkal Alumina.
Mr. Mazhar Beig, Unit Head and President of Utkal Alumina graced the occasion and engaged with the community in each activity. He appreciated our tribal community for showing us a path thathow-to live-in harmony with nature and preserve the environmentwith their traditional and unique lifestyle.

The week-long celebration of Environment Day exemplified the organization’s dedication to fostering environmental consciousness within the community and strengthening the collective resolve to adopt sustainable practices.
