Two persons , one male and a female arrested for abduction for extortion and assault by Berhampur Police (?

Berhampur,( 03/06):Gosaninuagaon Police Station has arrested two accused persons today in connection with Case No. 211 dated 03.06.2026 under Sections 140(2)/115(2)/127(2)/109(1)/351(3)/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The case was registered on the written complaint of one Alok Kumar Das (42), son of Debendranath Das, resident of Rokata, PS Mancheswar, Bhubaneswar.
As per the complaint, the complainant along with three friends had come to Berhampur to purchase a car. On 02.06.2026 at about 05.30 PM, while he was near a car washing centre on Andhapasara Road, Berhampur, a group of persons travelling in a white Swift Desire car and two bikes suddenly attacked him. He was forcibly abducted and taken to a secluded spot near Gopalpur Sea beach. There, the accused persons allegedly assaulted him by pressing his neck with the intention to kill and demanded Rs.2,40,000, threatening dire consequences if the amount was not paid.
The accused kept him confined at Raj Residency Hotel. The complainant managed to escape at about 05:00 AM on 03.06.2026 and reported the matter at the police station.
During investigation, the following accused persons were arrested on 03.06.2026 and forwarded to the honorable Court
1. Banoj Kumar Tarei (35), son of Late Umakanta Tarei, resident of Bhedi Sahi, PS Rasagovindapur, Dist. Mayurbhanj, presently residing at Kalyani Plaza, Sundarpada, PS Airfield, Dist. Khordha.
2. Snehalata Das (26), daughter of Bhagaban Das, resident of Khala Sahi, Ankuli, PS B.N. Pur, Dist. Ganjam, presently residing at Kalyani Plaza, Sundarpada, PS Airfield, Dist. Khordha.
Three android mobile phones and screenshots of bank transactions have been seized. During investigation it was found that , the victim had taken 3 lakhs loan from the accused person. Though he returned the principal 3 lakhs , the accused was demanding another 2 lakhs as interest and for getting that money, they abducted the victim and demanded ransom from him
Investigation of the case is in progress.
