The arrested accused have been identified as Muna Bishoyi (27), son of Kora Bishoyi of Balipada under Brahampur Sadar Police Station, and Deepak Gouda (25), son of Santosh Gouda of Donkari under Digapahandi Police Station.

According to police, acting on confidential information, a team of Brahampur Sadar Police conducted a raid at Mahughara Hill during the evening of August 18, 2026. During the operation, police reportedly found a group of around 10 to 15 persons engaged in Mangapata, an illegal chance-based gambling activity involving substantial cash stakes.

Police said the gambling operation appeared to have been organised systematically, with lookouts allegedly deployed along the approach routes to the hill to alert the gamblers about the arrival of law-enforcement personnel.

On seeing the police team, several persons reportedly fled from the spot. Police, however, managed to apprehend Balakrushna Sahu at the scene, while Mithun Jena was subsequently arrested in connection with the case.

During the raid, police seized four two-wheelers, including a Honda Activa bearing registration number OD07BE1069, a Hero Pleasure bearing registration number OD07M3305, a Hero Honda CD Dawn bearing registration number OR12A6800, and an unregistered TVS XL 100 moped.

Police also seized two sets of 52 playing cards and other materials allegedly used for gambling, besides other articles connected with the betting operation.

Continuing their investigation into the organised gambling network, police arrested Muna Bishoyi and Deepak Gouda on September 2, 2026, and subsequently forwarded them to the Hon’ble Court.

Police said further investigation is underway to identify other persons involved in the illegal gambling operation and ascertain the full extent of the network
