Two arrested in Giri road assault case ;rime accused still on run means waiting for confirm Encounter(!)

Berhampur,(20/05/26):Two individuals, Raj Malhotra and Lingaraj Samal, have been arrested in connection with the brutal assault on a young couple on Giri Road in Berhampur, Odisha. The brazen attack, which was caught on a viral video, has sparked widespread public outrage.
Police also seized two scooters, a stick allegedly used in the assault, and a mobile phone from the possession of the accused. However, the prime accused, Sandeep Sahu, is still absconding

On 19.05.2026, Smt. Amulya Kumari Rath (47) of Gajapati Nagar, mother of Umesh Rath (23) lodged a complaint at Berhampur Town Police Station stating that on 18.05.2026 at about 8:30 PM, near Giri Road, her son Umesh Rath and his would be daughter in law Gayatri Patra were assaulted by five persons due to previous enmity.
Umesh Rath sustained fractures on both legs while Gayatri Patra sustained minor injuries trying to protect Umesh Rath.
Investigation revealed that the attack stemmed from a previous enimity. Accused persons hatched a conspiracy and executed the assault on 18.05.2026. The assailants later absconded.
Arrests made
1. Raj Malhotra (21) S/o Ronit @ Rahit Malhotra, Gajapati Nagar 4th Lane, Berhampur.
2. Lingaraj Samal @ Rinku (24) S/o Late Dhiren Samal, Sriram Nagar 6th Lane, Berhampur, PS Badabazar.

Raj Malhotra was present in the spot and assisted the main accused persons in their assault. Lingaraj Samal conspired the plan with other accused persons and also harboured the accused persons.
