TRAINING CENTRE FOR CERTIFICATE COURSE IN DIABETES AT BERHAMPUR

Berhampur, dated 12th January 2020: The PHFI (Public Health Foundation of India) in its pursuit of better patient care in non communicable diseases is offering several courses to doctors across India. Keeping in view the ever growing prevalence of Diabetes, CCEBDM (Certificate Course in Evidence Based Diabetes Management) is one such course to train general practitioners about various aspects of Diabetes & update their skills in management. The course started in the year 2010 and till date more than 10000 doctors have been trained across india. This year, the 6th cycle of nationwide CCEBDM will be launched at 70 centres in India. Among 4 centres at Odisha, Berhampur is the only centre in south Odisha, where Dr Sunil Kumar Kota, consultant Endocrinologist from Diabetes & Endocare Clinic, Berhampur is designated as the regional faculty.

The first session was held today at seminal hall of Roland Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (RIPS), Ambapua. Sri Chandra Sekhar Sahu, Hon’ble MP, Berhampur was the chief guest for the inaugural session whereas  Prof N C Padhi, Retired Head, Dept of Surgery, MKCG Medical College and Dr Santosh Kumar, National Program coordinator, PHFI were invited as guests of honor. Dr Chandra sekhar sahu highlighted the alarming situation of increasing prevalence of diabetes and congratulated Dr Kota for taking up such a nice initiative to train primary care physicians about Diabetes. He additionally put the onus on the doctors receiving training, to dispel the wrong notions and myths about this disorder that is commonly prevalent in the society. He went on to laud the efforts of PHFI and thanked them for picking Berhampur as a training centre where many doctors of south Odisha would be benefitted. Prof N C Padhi further stressed upon making general people aware about causes, symptoms, complications, lifestyle modification and treatment aspects in Diabetes. Dr Santosh highlighted various projects undertaken by PHFI in this regards. In this regard, all the guests appreciated Dr Sunil Kota’s effort in educating the common masses by various awareness activities. Under Dr Kota, 25 doctors from different districts of South Odisha would be trained over 1 year by means of 12 monthly classes. At the end, the doctors qualifying an exit examination would be provided with a certificate by PHFI
