Three Arrested, Three CICL Apprehended in Birapadmanabhapur School Theft Case

Digapahandi, 21/09/2026: Digapahandi Police have arrested three persons and apprehended three children in conflict with law (CICL) in connection with the alleged theft of rice and school materials from the Upper Primary School at Birapadmanabhapur.
The case was registered as Digapahandi P.S. Case No. 396 dated 17.09.2026 under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the BNS.
According to police, Headmaster Jatia Mallik lodged a report at around 10.25 PM on September 17, stating that 30 packets of rice, each weighing 50 kg, along with school toys worth approximately Rs.10,000, had been stolen from the school storeroom.
Police said the school stock had last been accounted for on September 14 and the shortage was detected at around 10.00 AM on September 17. During investigation, police suspected that the theft had taken place during the holidays, taking advantage of the absence of security arrangements at the school.
The arrested persons have been identified as:
J. Akash Patra @ Jatra (19), son of Late Nilambar Patra, Sanadumula, under Digapahandi Police Station.
J. Balakrishna Patra @ Tamato @ Bala (24), son of J. Dilesu Patra, Sanadumula, under Digapahandi Police Station.
Silu Pradhan (21), son of Gangadhar Pradhan, Karapada, under Digapahandi Police Station.
Police have also apprehended three CICL in connection with the case. Their identities have not been disclosed in accordance with juvenile protection provisions.
During the investigation, police seized one Dala Auto bearing registration number OD07Y5025, eight packets of rice weighing 50 kg each (400 kg in total), and various school toys allegedly connected with the case.
The three arrested accused persons have been forwarded to the Hon’ble Court, while the three CICL were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
Further investigation is underway.
