Rain water overflow of the Ash-pond of NTPC Kaniha

NTPC Kaniha, 03 July 2026:It has been reported in some of the electronic and print media that there has been breach in NTPC Ash-Pond leading to severe damages around the area.
It is clarified that due to heavy rainfall at 12:30 AM on 03 July 2026, the existing toe drain at the bottom of B zone Stage-2 Ash-Pond got filled up with silt, ash, and earth resulting into overflow of storm-water to the adjacent area. The affected area belongs entirely to NTPC.
Immediately after the incident, corrective action was taken by NTPC authorities by clearing the blocked drain and restoring the toe drain to ensure proper drainage.
It is further clarified that there has been no spillage of Ash-Water to agricultural fields, school area and Tikira River as reported.
The situation is being closely monitored, and necessary maintenance activities are being carried out on priority.
