Proactive Policing in Digapahandi Prevents Land Dispute from Turning Violent; 9 Arrested

Brahmapur, August 7, 2026: Prompt and proactive intervention by Digapahandi Police has prevented a land dispute at Nua Antei village from escalating into a serious clash, with police arresting and forwarding nine persons to the court in two related cases.
According to police, the action was taken in connection with a dispute over land between two groups at Nua Antei. In Digapahandi Police Station Case No. 317/2026, five persons, including four men and one woman, were arrested and forwarded to the competent court. In a related case, Case No. 319/2026, another four persons, including three men and one woman, were arrested and forwarded.
The police action is being viewed as a preventive measure that helped avert further confrontation and the possibility of grievous injuries.
On Friday, the SDPO, Chikiti, along with the IIC of Digapahandi Police Station, visited the spot. A local Revenue Inspector also jointly inspected the disputed land. Following verification of the relevant land records, the authorities confirmed that the disputed property belongs to the government.
In view of the possibility of further tension, Digapahandi Police is set to submit a formal prayer before the Sub-Divisional Magistrate seeking enforcement of prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), corresponding to the erstwhile Section 144 of the CrPC, over the disputed land.
Police said the proposed prohibitory measures are intended to maintain public order, prevent further confrontation between the two groups and avert any untoward incident.
Five arrested in Digapahandi PS Case No. 317/2026
The case was registered on August 5, 2026, under Sections 126(2), 296, 115(2), 125, 351(2), 3(5) BNS, subsequently adding Section 109 BNS.
The arrested persons are:
Mathura Gouda (50), son of Late Bauria Gouda, Nua Antei.
Ajit Gouda (29), son of Abhimanyu Gouda, Lanjia, under Berhampur Sadar Police Station.
Roshan Gouda (20), son of Mathura Gouda, Nua Antei.
Reetanjali Gouda (42), wife of Late Sankar Gouda, Nua Antei.
Tripati Gouda (19), son of Sankar Gouda, Nua Antei.
Four arrested in related Case No. 319/2026
The second case has been registered under Sections 329(4), 324(4), 296, 115(2), 117(2), 109, 351(3) and 3(5) BNS.
The arrested persons are:
Soudamini Choudhury (52), wife of Debaraj Choudhury.
Bikram Choudhury (44), son of Late Udhav Choudhury.
Manmath Choudhury (40), son of Late Udhav Choudhury.
Mihir Choudhury (42), son of Late Udhav Choudhury.
All four are residents of Nua Antei under Digapahandi Police Station.
The timely police intervention, coupled with verification of the disputed property by the Revenue Department, has brought the situation under control. Police said necessary preventive measures will continue to be taken to ensure peace and public safety in the area.
