OSRTC Driver Held in Brahmapur Over Alleged Sexual Exploitation & Extortion

Brahmapur, Oct. 2: Badabazar Police have arrested an OSRTC driver in connection with a case involving alleged sexual exploitation, extortion and threats to circulate intimate photographs and videos on social media.
The accused, Tapas Sethi (36), son of Narasingha Sethi of Sidheswara village under Digapahandi police limits in Ganjam district, was working as a driver with OSRTC, Brahmapur.
According to the complaint lodged by a 30-year-old woman working as a computer operator at OSRTC, Brahmapur, the accused became acquainted with her in late 2023, allegedly on the promise of marriage.
The complainant alleged that their relationship subsequently became physical and that the accused secretly recorded her intimate photographs and videos during the period of their relationship. She stated that the alleged physical relationship continued during the year preceding her complaint.
The complainant further alleged that when she later insisted on marriage, the accused refused. She alleged that he then threatened to circulate the intimate photographs and videos on social media and demanded ₹5 lakh for deleting the material.
Based on the complaint, Badabazar Police registered Case No. 739 dated 01.10.2026 under Sections 69, 308(5) and 351(2) of the BNS, read with Section 66(E) of the IT Act, and began an investigation.
Police seized two mobile phones—OPPO A5 Pro 5G and OPPO F29 5G with SIM cards, along with the accused’s wearing apparel, Aadhaar Card, Driving Licence and other relevant documents.
The complainant and witnesses were examined and their statements recorded. Both the complainant and the accused were sent to FM & T, MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Brahmapur, for medico-legal examination.
Police said that prima facie evidence was found during the investigation.
The accused was arrested on October 1 at about 1:10 PM and subsequently forwarded to the SDJM Court, Brahmapur, with a prayer for judicial remand.
The allegations are subject to investigation and judicial proceedings, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proved guilty in accordance with law.
