Bhubaneswar: No shortage in the state as oil companies pledge uninterrupted supply and appeal to public not to panic-buy

In a proactive move to keep fuel flowing smoothly and prevent any unnecessary anxiety among the public, the Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department convened a crucial high-level meeting on Thursday.

Supplies Minister Krushna Chandra Patra presided over the meeting at his secretariat office, where senior representatives from India’s leading oil marketing companies gathered to discuss and strengthen the petroleum supply chain in the state.

The Minister laid strong emphasis on two clear priorities: maintaining an uninterrupted supply chain and keeping the interests of the common citizen at the forefront. “We are committed to ensuring that every citizen of Odisha gets easy access to petrol and diesel without any disruption,” Patra told the officials.

The meeting came at a time when rumours of shortages have been doing the rounds in certain pockets of the state. However, the government and oil companies presented a reassuring picture. According to officials present, petrol and diesel are currently available in abundant quantities across Odisha, and every petrol pump in the state is receiving regular and stable supplies.

Representatives from the oil companies — Kamal Sheel, State Head of Indian Oil; Ashish Pandey of HPCL; and Deepak Agrawal of BPCL — assured the Minister that the supply situation remains completely normal. They urged citizens not to engage in panic buying or hoard fuel beyond their actual requirement.

“Some isolated reports of temporary shortages at a few pumps have come to our notice,” the company officials admitted. “We are giving special attention to these pockets and have already initiated immediate steps to resolve them.”

The Minister directed the oil companies to monitor the ground situation round-the-clock and ensure that any minor glitches are fixed within the shortest possible time. He also called upon the public to remain vigilant but calm, advising them to purchase only what they genuinely need.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department, along with the top executives of the three major oil companies operating in the state.

With this coordinated effort, the Odisha government has sent a clear message: fuel supply in the state is stable, well-managed, and fully prioritised for the benefit of the people. Citizens can continue their daily routines without worry, confident that the pumps will stay open and stocked.
