Odisha to introduce morning schools amid rising summer heat

Bhubaneswar:In view of rising temperatures, the Odisha government has decided to introduce morning classes in all schools during the summer season this year to safeguard students from heat wave conditions.
School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond said, With temperatures beginning to climb, the government is preparing to shift school timings to morning hours as a precaution against heat wave conditions a final decision will be taken soon after a high-level meeting with the Revenue and Disaster Management Department. The state had implemented a similar measure last year, starting April 2, following an early onset of heat wave conditions.
The move is aimed at protecting students from prolonged exposure to extreme heat during the summer months, He added.
The India Meteorological Department has indicated that maximum temperatures in Odisha may fall by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next few days before gradually rising again across districts.
Scientists have linked the trend to rising global temperatures and changing climate patterns, which could lead to more frequent and intense heat wave.
