Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government revises new Guideline for Police Transfer Rule in Odisha. The roadmap, designed to enhance efficiency and prevent local influence. Now to mandatory.

The General Administration Department, Odisha has issued a new directive regarding the posting and transfer of police officers across the state.

As per the guideline, police personnel cannot serve more than 3 years in one location and not more than 6 years in a single district.

The state government has also asked for a detailed list of officers who have exceeded their tenure, aiming to improve transparency and administrative efficiency.

All district SPs and DCPs of Commissionerate Police have been instructed to submit the required data.

This step is being seen as an effort to bring more transparency and accountability in the police administration system.

As of April 2026, the Odisha government has mandated strict police transfer guidelines: a maximum of three years at a single station and six years in one district. These guidelines, designed to enhance efficiency and prevent local influence, mandate annual transfers to be conducted between April 15 and June 15.
