NTPC Talcher Kaniha, 12 May 2026:NTPC Talcher Kaniha inaugurated the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2026 on 11 May 2026. The four-week summer workshop aims to empower young girls through education, confidence-building, and personality development.
The programme was inaugurated by Ajay Singh Yadav, Head of Project (HOP), Talcher Kaniha, in the presence of senior officials. Representatives of unions and associations, members of Tanvi Sangam, and parents of the GEM participants also attended the inauguration ceremony.
The programme will continue from 11 May to 7 June 2026, with 140 girls from 30 government schools participating in the workshop. During this period, the participants will receive training in academics, arts and crafts, yoga, self-defence, extracurricular activities, and personality development, with a focus on building confidence and overall growth.
The Girl Empowerment Mission was first launched by NTPC in 2018. This programme aims to empower underprivileged girls (10–12 years) from villages surrounding NTPC project areas by promoting education, self-reliance, and skill development. The initiative focuses on reducing gender inequality, fostering social upliftment, and enabling girls to become confident and independent contributors to nation-building. After this summer workshop, a one-week follow-up winter workshop is also conducted during the winter vacation as part of the programme.
Over the years, GEM has emerged as a transformative initiative positively impacting more than 10,000 girls across the country. NTPC Kaniha has played a significant role in this mission and, since 2019, has empowered over 550 girls, helping them move towards a brighter and more confident future. Not only this, but meritorious students are also provided the opportunity to study in NTPC schools.
