Nayagarh’s Sarankul Police Station IIC Booked for Sexually Assaulting Woman | Transferred Pending Inquiry

NAYAGADA,DIST.:In a shocking development, Sujit Kumar Das, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Sarankul Police Station in Nayagarh district, has been formally booked for allegedly committing sexual assault on a woman from Jamusahi village.
According to the Odisha Police Central Range, Cuttack, a case (No.133) was registered at Sarankul Police Station on June 17 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a complaint by the victim.
The Central Range has directed that Inspector Das be attached to the District Police Office (DPO), Nayagarh, until further orders. In the meantime, the charge of Sarankul Police Station has been handed over to another officer, Anita Sahoo, DCRB, Nayagarh, to ensure a fair and impartial investigation.
Deputy SP, IUCAW, Nayagarh, DSP Sanghamitra Nayak, OPS, has been assigned to lead the investigation.
Describing the allegations as “very serious in nature”, the Odisha Police has decided to hand over the probe to the CAW & CW wing of the Crime Branch, Bhubaneswar.
