Rayagada, August 30: Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Hatamuniguda, celebrated the National Sports Day with great zeal and energy through a three-day programme held from 28th to 30th August, 2026, commemorating the birth anniversary of the legendary hockey maestro, Major Dhyan Chand.  The celebration highlighted the vital role of sports in shaping healthy bodies, disciplined minds and strong characters. It  began on 28th August with a floral tribute to Major Dhyan Chand, followed by  homage to India’s sporting heroes. Later in the day, the students participated in the “29 Challenges,” including  “Pass the Ball Challenge”,  which generated great excitement and encouraged teamwork and co-ordination.

​On 29th August, all the students and staff members took the National Sports Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to fitness and an active lifestyle. Sriman Minaka Chandan spoke on the life and achievements of Major Dhyan  Chand. The day continued with “Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Mein”, encouraging everyone to spend an hour on the playground,  and the “One Class, One Game” initiative to promote mass participation in sports.

The highlight of the day was an energetic and enjoyable “Teachers vs Students Friendly Football Match”, which witnessed enthusiastic participation and cheering from all present. 

The celebration concluded on 30th with the National Sports Pledge and Community Cycle Riding, encouraging fitness, camaraderie and regular involvement in physical activities beyond the confines of everyday routine.
