Jindal Steel Celebrates Shri O.P. Jindal’s 96th Birth Anniversary

Angul, August 7: Jindal Steel Angul marked the 96th birth anniversary of its founder, Shri O.P. Jindal (Bauji), with a series of social initiatives and the inauguration of the O.P. Jindal Football Tournament 2026.


Addressing the gathering, Jindal Steel Managing Director Mr. V. R. Sharma recalled Shri O.P. Jindal’s contribution to India’s steel industry. He said Bauji began his entrepreneurial journey with a pipe-making unit and went on to build a major steel enterprise. He also inspired his family members to join the business and carry forward his vision.

“Bauji’s journey is a remarkable chapter in India’s industrial history. From a modest beginning in pipe manufacturing, he built a steel enterprise with a strong focus on nation-building and employment generation,” Sharma said.



He added that the O.P. Jindal group today produces more than 50 million tonnes of steel and provides employment to around two million people in India and abroad.

The Executive Director, Iron Zone, Jindal Steel Angul, who began his career with Shri O.P. Jindal, shared his experiences of working with him. He recalled Bauji’s vision of a self-reliant India based on the use of indigenous resources and production of quality steel.



“Bauji believed that industrial growth must go hand in hand with the development of local communities. We are committed to carrying forward his vision and values through our work,” he said.



Executive Director and Location Head, Angul, Mr. P. K. Biju Nair; Executive Director, Special Projects, Mr.HridayswarJha; Yoga Guru Swami SatyabinduSaraswati; and other dignitaries and community representatives attended the programme. They pledged to uphold Shri O.P. Jindal’s values and contribute to the realisation of his vision for the nation.

The O.P. Jindal Football Tournament 2026 was also inaugurated in Angul. Twelve teams from across Odisha are participating in the tournament. Dr. Sanjay Swain, IFS, Regional Chief Conservator of Forests (RCCF), inaugurated the event in the presence of Mr.Akshay Seth, District Sports Officer, Angul. Mr.Khirod Kumar Barik, Vice-President, HR & ES, and Mr.JayantMohanty, GM-CSR, along with other dignitaries, attended the inaugural ceremony. The final of the tournament will be held on August 18, 2026


As part of the anniversary celebrations, Jindal Foundation distributed dry ration to elderly care homes, destitute women’s care homes and institutions for visually impaired persons. Cattle feed was also provided to several gaushalas in Angul district.

The celebrations extended to O.P. Jindal School, DAV Savitri Jindal School, Naveen Jindal Skill Centre, Shramveen Palace and other locations, where various programmes were organised to commemorate the life and legacy of Shri O.P. Jindal.
