International Sign Language Day celebrated in Sunabeda

Sunabeda: Date: 24/09/22: Koraput District Social Security and  Empowerment of Persons with Disability Department has celebrated International Sign Language Day at School for the hearing impaired, Sunabeda.  Koraput District Social Security Officer Simanchal  Mohapatra presided over the meeting while  President of Koraput District Association of the Deaf Shaik Ibrahim attended the  programme as chief speaker and expressed his opinion that there is a need for joint efforts for the widespread propagation and dissemination of sign language. Apart from this, he requested the district authority to start class 9 and 10 in Sunabeda School for the benefit of entire hearing impaired  students of undivided Koraput district. Former Head Master of the school Vinay Kumar Mishra and  advisor of Deaf Association  Dr. Uma Shankar Prasad Patra graced the occasion as Guests of Honour and highlighted the significance of Sigm languages. Simanchala  Mahapatra read out the message  given by  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of International Sign Language Day. Mr Mahapatra  also  promised all possible cooperation for the development of the school. Prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions organized on the occasion. School Principal Kelu Charan Mohanty conducted the program and also proposed vote of thanks. Senior teacher of the school Suvendra Kumar Das translated the speakers’ speech into sign language. All the students, teachers and members of the Koraput District Deaf Association participated in the program.
